dayhouse QUARRYOpened 22nd February, 2003 The site of the National Diving Centre, just outside Chepstow in Monmouthshire is a former limestone quarry called "Dayhouse quarry". It has been flooded for some 7 years since quarrying ceased. Prior to it's flooding, the quarry base was re-profiled and outline planning consent was given for it's use as a dive centre. The developers, Dayhouse Quarry Ltd., have almost completed the initial phases of construction of the site into what will probably become one of the foremost inland diving centres in Europe, and certainly in the U.K. as it has a range of depths from 0-9, 9-18, 26, 45, 50 and 80 metres, all of which will be marked with buoys and trapeze where appropriate and necessary. The shallower waters will have all you would expect in the way of "attractions" on the bottom, whilst the deeper waters will be kept clear of any possible obstructions. The site is well stocked with Perch and Pike. We have conducted market research into divers likes and dislikes, and arranged the centre's facilities to make life as easy as possible. The water's edge can be reached by walking, or using the two courtesy vehicles that will take you and your kit from the parking areas to the pontoons every 20 minutes or so. The water will be accessed by 260 metres of pontoons with kit trolleys available, and configured to give maximum access and exit points, and the least amount of swimming! As you would expect, the centre will have full rescue facilities such a RIB, first aid, and chamber, with qualified personnel to operate them. The centre will have classrooms for instructor and club use, shop, gas, hire equipment, cafe, changing rooms and toilets, etc.
