Shore/Boat/Long Swim Boat dive

The Imperial Eagle is a sunken and mostly intact GOZO ferry, which is reached via the concrete pier of St. Paul’s Bay. We used a fairly traditional local Maltese boat that was well capable of taking us all with our equipment stored centrally on a flat wide "coach house roof" (sun deck). Although the water was a little choppy and the "V" shape of the hull provided little in the way of stability we made our way out towards St. Paul’s Islands when the dive guide gave us his brief.

Look down stairways into the larger spaces below the main deck – there is not a lot to see but access is possible although remember time is limited and there is still more to see including the flying bridge where the steering wheel has just got to be played with.

The traditional colouration of the boat can still be seen and the wooden floor decking is worth exploring to see where it starts and stops. If you have air remaining, look out over the sides to get that long lasting impression of the size of the ferry and then you will have to make your way back towards the mooring ropes and carry out your deco stops before re-boarding your taxi boat.

The Drop off Maximum Depth  42 meters  Navigation. It is a very interesting dive. You could see many octopus or tun shells. The bottom is rich in red algae. The further out you go you will find only sand. This site is very frequented when there is a West wind, preventing diving in other areas. Take care of the Current that could be found in these areas.

NB VERY Experienced divers only (Advanced Open Water Divers and Deep Divers with 30+ logged dives)

Dive Sites
For all these dive sites, we recommend you gain plenty of local knowledge before diving and where possible dive with experienced divers who are very familiar with the sites. This is definitely the best way to enjoy a safe and interesting dives.
